Abstract

Relations between Senegal and Mauritania remain strained in the wake of rioting and violence in April 1989 which left many dead and countless more uprooted. Despite the crucial role played by each nation's citizens in the economy of their neighbor, the explosion of long-simmering racial tensions may have caused irreparable damage at both the interstate and domestic levels. -Author
