Abstract

This article presents educational materials resulting from research carried out as part of the professional master's degree program in Mathematics Education at the Federal University of Ouro Preto. Under the Brazilian Open University project (BOU), we focused on the transition process of teachers from face-to-face learning to the distance learning (DL) mode often with little or no previous training. We noted that, in their first steps into DL, teachers barely used technological resources that typically assist in participants' interactions, and sometimes their practice reflected their face-to-face teaching. Mediations were perceived from the perspective of Activity Theory. This theory studies the subject in activity and their incorporation of new artifacts into their practice, which was constantly changing. The educational material is a guide for teachers who suddenly finds themselves in the role of DL teachers within the BOU system. The guide aims to introduce this new context briefly conceptualizing the elements of the BOU and suggesting tools and tutorials in a practical and objective way.
