Abstract

The growing interconnection between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and theology is examined, exploring how digital technology permeates not only the daily sphere, but also deep aspects of our conceptions and religious practices. With AI emerging in most aspects of human life and, even in its ability to generate religious content, we find a new digital technological paradigm that challenges our traditional conceptions. AI development seems to go beyond mere data collection. It poses fundamental questions about human nature and also its imminent impact on theology. How AI, which belongs to a human zone by itself, could trespass religion frontiers is explored. In addition, the need to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between theology and AI is emphasized so as to direct the responsible use of this digital technology in theological contexts. This research proposal remarks the urgency for addressing theological challenges emerging from the growing integration of AI and theology. It advocates for the construction of a sound theological framework and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure harmonious coexistence between theology and AI in a world increasingly interconnected, theologically advanced, and less human.
