Giant cell tumors of the central skull base

Abstract

A case of giant cell tumor occupying the sphenoid bone, cli vus and presenting with a 6lh cranial nerve deficit will be presented. This was managed via a transfacial ostéoplastie maxillotomy with post-operative gamma knife radiation therapy. The incident, epidemiology and natural history of osseous lesions of the central skull base will be reviewed. Management of benign and malignant bone tumors of the central skull base will be reviewed. Management of giant cell tumors of the central skull base will be detailed with attention to various surgical approaches, as well as nonsurgical therapeutic options. Reconstruction of the central skull base deficit will be detailed.
