Abstract
Silting of a dam basin causes the reduction of the dam storage capacity due to the accumulation of sediments. Silting affects the performance of a dam basin since it reduces its regulation capacity and its service life ; it lowers the efficacy of its management ; and it induces lasting safety hazards. The negative impacts of silting are not limited to the dam itself ; they also concern the downstrem adduction, distribution and treatment infrastructures. Finally, the silting process jeopardizes the efforts of surface water development projects.
