Abstract

Candiduria is the discovery of Candida spp. in urine. Disclosure of Candida sp. in urine can indicate contamination, colonization, or infection. The aim of this study was to find out the results of candiduria detection in urinary tract infection patients using a catheter at Labuang Baji Makassar Hospital. This type of study is a descriptive study of the sampling technique used is accidental sampling, as well as a number of samples of 12 samples. This research was conducted at the campus Microbiology Laboratory of the Department of Technology of the Makassar Poltekkes Medical Laboratory on May 13 to 3 June 2022. The inspection methods carried out are urine culture, colony calculation (total plate number) and microscopic examination of fungal colonies. Of the 12 samples, 6 of which were positive there was the growth of Candida spp. fungus with round, smooth, and white colony features. Presentation of candiduria incidence rate of 50% with the number of colonies are 5.4x10 3 , 4.4x10 4 , 2.3x10 4 , 4.4x10 5 , 7.6x10 6 and 8.4x10 6 CFU/mL. Candiduria is more common in women (66.3%) compared to men (33.3%). Microscopic examination results in finding pseudohifa and blastospores. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the May 2022 candiduria incidence rate at the Labuang Baji Makassar Hospital in urinary tract infection patients using a catheter is quite high at as much as 50% and fungal species found, namely Candida spp.
