Abstract

A 'charge-dumping' digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) switching scheme is proposed for successive-approximation-register analogueto-digital converters. The proposed switching scheme utilises switched current sources to shift DAC voltages without consuming any power. The proposed scheme reduces DAC switching energy by 99.86% and DAC capacitance by 93.75% from the conventional scheme, the highest reductions among all reported switching schemes.
