Abstract

With the aim of getting to grips with the suffering of families and in response to problems they may have in terms of mobility, a SESSAD (Specialised Education and Home-based Care Service) team makes visits to their homes. The question then arises as to the effects such encounters can have, both on the family and the professionals. The authors do not claim to give a comprehensive answer to this question but in the present article they seek to reflect on what precisely happens when these two groups (professionals and families) meet, bearing in mind that in such home visits the spatial situation is reversed, with the professionals being uprooted from their normal working environment whereas the family is well and truly at home. Looking at a clinical case, we examine the process of differentiation and co-creation of a "transitional space".
