Autoficção, memória e trauma histórico em "Uma fome", de Leandro Sarmatz

Abstract

"Uma fome" is the short story that opens the debut short story collection by Porto Alegre based writer Leandro Sarmatz. The author - together with writers like Michel Laub, Tatiana Salem Levy, Julian Fuks - is part of a new generation of Brazilian authors who use their lives as narrative material. Their incorporation of biographical elements interrogates the veracity of autobiographical texts, as well as the definition of what constitutes fiction and of the literary craft. In this article, we aim to understand how this autoficcional trend can be aligned with collective memory work and the concept of historical grief to construct a narrative in which the private and the public come together through a process of the personalization of history and collectivization of individual trauma.
