Abstract

The modern era of urology was inaugurated when incandescent light was cystoscopically introduced into the urinary bladder. Lasers represent one aspect of the continued development and application of light technology in urology. The photothermal, photochemical, and photomechanical properties of lasers are used for both the diagnosis and treatment of urologic disease.
