Abstract
Looking for a theoretical approach about consumption, and considering a variety of sources, like Marx, Veblen, Simmel, Halbwachs, Bourdieu and Douglas, this paper aim is to highlight the socializing potential of the market, especially from the point of view of the New Economic Sociology. The proposition focus on Zelizer's critique of the hostile-worlds theory, approach which avoids a reductionist comprehension of markets in economic or cultural terms. She states that social analysis should not oppose market and cultural as two separated spheres that corrupt each other when considered together; these worlds, she affirms, are, indeed, mixed in peoples' routines. The paper offers a panoramic discussion about these topics, centered mainly on consumption.
