Abstract
This essay was created to provide content for use in core IS business courses which emphasize the teaching of Excel (or any type of spreadsheet or analytic software). The authors have observed that the typical textbooks used in such courses jump directly into teaching the mechanics of the software paying relatively little attention to the context in which these tools will be used. This essay attempts to remedy that deficiency by providing an overview of business decision-making without requiring our students to purchase another book. Accordingly, the target audience for this essay is undergraduate students. We submitted this essay to InSITE hoping to receive substantive comments that could be used to improve the paper.
