Abstract

At ITMA '95, in the field of colorimetry, the apparatus presented was more reliable and was easier to operate. But it is mainly the data processing and data exploitation which progressed through the setting-up of user-friendly software operating under the Windows system, which was adopted by the large majority of the manufacturers. Expert systems allowed the integration of the colorimetry systems into the mill organisation; on-line measurements of colour allow the setting-up of dyestuff formulae in the laboratory and the mastering of the dyeing process itself, thus decreasing the percentage of unacceptable colours at the end of the cycle. On-line measurement is still costly and not yet widely adopted but the control of colour on a wet fabric surface and the immediate readjustment of the pressure on the padder should allow the elimination of numerous subsequent corrections.
