Abstract

New Zealand has been undertaking a process of negotiating and settling the historical Treaty of Waitangi grievances of the indigenous Maori population since the 1990s. This article outlines the development of the Treaty settlement process and the role of the Crown’s apology to Maori claimant groups in the reconciliation process.
