Abstract

Over and over, across different cultures, people have tried to discover the pregnancy's secret. Before the treatment of pregnancy as a medical matter, a pregnant body was considered as permeable to the outside world. It's only through the new techniques of medical imagery that one got the chance to unveil the secret of pregnancy. This article will uncover the road between divinatory and scientific practices revealing parts of the mysteries behind pregnancy. Scans and medical imagery did reveal the body of the fetus while psychoanalysis did give a frame of reference in order to think about the psychic revising occurring during the pregnancy. From body to psyche, the aim remains the immutable wish to produce transparency about pregnancy.
