Abstract
The article presents the author's views on what needs to be done to prolong what he sees as a "golden era" in academic life. He believes that research should continue to have a top priority as a means of keeping classroom instruction up to date. Instructors should also make a greater effort to integrate material from different disciplines. Finally, he sees a need to reconsider the relationship between financial and managerial accounting. The application of sound managerial accounting principles, he notes, should never serve to reduce net income.
