Abstract
This research investigates the integration of biophilic features in campus spaces of Jordanian universities to improve students’ psychological well-being and performance. This study integrates these features into the Biophilic Interior Design Campus Matrix (BIDC-M), which is derived from biophilic design attributes based on Kellert’s list and the (TBG) biophilic design patterns, adjusted to suit university campus spaces. Qualitative research methods, including direct observation, photography, and a structured survey questionnaire, were employed to analyse 21 interior and open spaces across three private university campuses in Jordan. Averaging 70 marks for 87 overall features, the findings suggest that the (BIDC-M) was successful in identifying the presence of 85% biophilic features in the selected settings. Results of biophilic design on the three campuses ranged from 8 to 77 and showed a significant variation in the adoption of biophilic designs across the universities. Results highlight the importance of enhancing biophilic design factors and fostering a better connection between students and nature. Both reflect the need for theoretical and practical investigation to contribute to the development of biophilic patterns for the design of campuses and promote the use of biophilic design in campus planning, environmental quality, culture, and the restorative environment.
