Abstract
The game is a form of play that facilitates learning and consequently the development of the skills and capabilities necessary for a student. This study aimed to prepare, describe and analyze strategies and skills that the practice of chess afforded to a student with multiple disabilities. The student who was the subject of this study, was observed for his capability to play autonomously and independently. The game used was the adapted chess, which consisted of a board and pieces, with touch-sensitive area and colors. The forty-five treatment sessions consisted of the following procedures: the recognition of the pieces and areas on the board, rules with a story telling, adaptation of strategies for the arrangement of pieces on the board, moves and the game itself.
