Abstract
This article discusses whether or not data collection policies are worthwhile for libraries. The author suggests that the answers to questions about the frequency of use or references to such policies will help libraries to decide on a development policy. Collection assessment policies are generally thought to help with budget requests and promotional materials, etc. Author Richard Snow believes that assessment processes are confusing, subjective, and prone to librarian bias. The author believes that the amount of work put into creating such policies, makes their value very small.
