Abstract

Among a relatively few metallic systems certain alloys of gold exhibit a remarkable mechanical memory. After severe distortion a change of temperature will cause them to return to their original shape. This phenomenon is reviewed, and some possible applications are outlined for gold alloys having this unusual property in addition to their excellent resistance to corrosion. © 1973 World Gold Council.
