Abstract

This work provides a comprehensive understanding of implementing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) in Multiple Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) using layer 3 Virtual Private Network (VPN). This project is implemented with the help of Graphical Network Simulator (GNS3). It is a tool which is used by network engineers. GNS3 provides a graphical user interface to design and configure virtual networks. It runs on traditional PC hardware and may be used on multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. The BGP protocol is implemented because it helps in the exchange of routing information between customer and service provider routers. The BGP's rapid information exchange is done by Multiple Protocol Label Switching, which helps the customers to connect with the shortest distance between the customer edge and service edge. Here the layer 3 VPN operates at the network layer, which helps in efficient connectivity at different geographical locations. Layer 3 VPN helps to separate traffic for different customers on a single network, thus ensuring that the information of each customer is private and secure.
