Abstract

In this stady,Bambusa bambos which is one of the locally available bamboo species was processed with different operations to get long fiber bundles. There are three methods of fiber extraction incorporated here namely mechanical extraction, chemical extraction and combined mechanical and chemical extraction. It has observed that by implementing all the above three methods, only third method called combined mechanical & chemical method is very much useful to get good quality fiber. Alkali solution for chemical treatment and disintegration of bamboo stnps by crushing mechanical method were used. Bamboo fiber bundles so obtained were used to fabricate composite using phenol formaldehyde resin and it was found that the mechanical properties of composite have improved.
