Abstract
Amorphous polysulfides of iron, nickel and cobalt were prepared and characterized. The resulting compounds, Co//2S//7, Co//2S//9, Ni//2S//7, and Fe//3S//8 were evaluated as cathode materials i organic electrolyte lithium batteries. The cobalt compounds in particular delivered very high capacities of 1-1. 2 Amp-hr/g at voltages around 1. 8 volts. The resulting cells possessed a very high gravimetric and volumetric energy density.
