Abstract

The response of eggs of the Queensland fruit fly, Bactrocera tryoni, to heat at varying ages was determined using hot water immersion for 5 min at temperatures of 44, 45, 46 and 47°C. Mortality was dependent on age with eggs becoming generally more tolerant of heat as embryonic development progressed. There were, however, significant variations in the patterns of tolerance at each treatment temperature. These data indicate that age is an important consideration in the development of quarantine heat treatments against B. tryoni eggs. Copyright © 1993, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
