Multimodal analysis of Twitter educational profiles and threads from the Didactics of Language and Literature

Abstract

Among the current social networks, compared to other more playful spaces, Twitter continues to be a space for debate, ideal for argumentation, because it allows us to link other documents and multimodal elements such as videos, images or animations, include labels and create threads that expand the discursive possibilities of the message, creating complex conversations between different people. In recent years, Twitter threads have become a tool for organizing discourse on different topics, such as politics or education. In this research we will focus on this last field, especially from the area of Didactics of Language and Literature. We start from a selection of educational profiles that serve us as role models in this network. Subsequently, a compilation of threads made between 2018 and 2022 is presented, to subsequently analyze 50 specific threads on educational threads. Different tools are used to obtain the maximum information from profiles and threads and an analysis template is adapted that highlights the multimodal possibilities of these digital conversations. Subsequently, different examples of threads are shown to show their hypertext complexity. The research shows that at the moment the educational debate on the web continues to take place on this social network.
