Abstract

The majority of the existing literature on the labor market, focuses on the description of only one of the components, which is the labor force. The traditional factors analyzed about the offer of employment are the size and structure of the population by age and the specific activity rates by sex and age. It is therefore considered that the size of the potential supply of the labor force is conditioned by demographic factors. The objective of this article is to demonstrate the influence of each geographical area - defined according to criteria of same regionalization and urban hierarchy -, on the behavior of the total and specific labor participation according to sex and age group is significant. This factor encouragement I have been to the labor market of a situation, level of unemployment record to almost full employment. However, since an analysis that incorporates the spatial dimension, we see that the behavior of the rate of activity is far from being homogeneous throughout the territory.
