Abstract

Visceral fat accumulation is located upstream of metabolic syndrome. Recent progress in adipocyte biology has clarified the molecular mechanism for pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome and its related disorders. In this review we summarize adiponectin and aquaporin 7 (AQP7) in the role of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. © The Japan Endocrine Society.
