Abstract

Temporal variations of soil volumetric water content (VWC) at three locations in tropical Nigeria were investigated using data from the Tropospheric Data Acquisition Network. Inland stations show maximum VWC values in the evening, whereas coastal areas show maximum values at noon. During the wet season, high and variable VWC values occur at each station. Local climatic factors such as land-ocean coupling, altitude, and intertropical discontinuities were found to significantly influence the results obtained.
