L’empathie en counseling interculturel

Abstract

Cette étude tente d'identifier le rôle que joue l'empathie en counseling inter culturel. On a parfois tendance en relation d'aide, au nom d'un objectif de neutralité, à afficher mie "indifférence aux différences" selon les termes mêmes de Camilleri (1985). L'empathie est ici située comme variable particulièrement cruciale en contexte interculturel puisqu'elle permet d'explorer à la fois ses ressemblances et ses différences en puisant dans sa socio-culture pour construire son modèle de l'autre et améliorer la qualité de son intervention. Sont également soulignés l'intérêt récent accordé à la problématique des ethnies dans les programmes de formation en counseling et les difficultés rencontrées dans l'évaluation des formations offertes.This study attempt to identify the role that empathy plays in intercultural counseling. There can be a tendency with assistance, with the nominative goal of neutrality, to use an "indifference to differences," in Camilleri's (1985) terms. Here, empathy is situated as a particularly crucial variable in the intercultural context, because it enables the counselor to explore both the similarities and the differences in one socio-culture to construct a model of the other and improve the quality of his or her intervention. As well, this article underlines the recent interest in the problem of ethnicities in counseling training programs and the difficulties encountered in evaluation of the offered training.
