Abstract

N-methacryloyl carbamates (I) are hetero-functional mols. which have a polymerizable methacryl group and a acylcarbamate group in a mol. The radical copolymn. of the methacryl group and the transesterification of acylcarbamate group with alcs. were studied. The relative reactivity ratios in the copolymn. of I and Et methacrylate were similar. The acylcarbamate group of I was highly reactive towards alcs., and the transesterification with 1-octadecanol was obsd. at lower temp. in the absence of catalyst. When the transesterification was carried out in the presence of the catalyst, dibutyltin oxide, the side reaction and the acceleration of the reaction were obsd. The reactivity towards alc. of the I copolymer was similar to that of the I itself. These remarkable features are due to the effect of the carbonyl group combined the vinyl group and carbamate group in I mol. [on SciFinder(R)]
