Abstract
A comparative analysis of flow models developed for the solids in a multistage spouted bed system designed by Arriola (1997), is presented. Models for the residence time distribution, suitable for commercial applications in processing seeds and grains, has been selected in the study. The experimental residence time distribution function was obtained by the stimulus-response technique using colored particles. Four models were compared: three compartment models, and the stirred-tank-in-series model. Evaluation of these models showed that the compartment models are more suitable for commercial applications. The statistical analysis allows to conclude that the best model, due to its simplicity, is the compartment model proposed by Arriola. © 2007 Centro de Información Tecnológica.
