Abstract

Advancing age is a risk factor for the development of coronary artery disease and is an important indicator of outcome after acute coronary syndrome. As the number of older adults increases, the burden of cardiovascular disease is set to grow particularly as older adults remain disadvantaged in the delivery of acute cardiac care. This article reviews the temporal changes in the provision of guideline recommended therapies for the management of acute coronary syndrome, discusses reasons for agedependent inequalities in care and the challenges facing clinicians. © The Author 2014.
