Abstract

The aim of this special issue is to explore how to manage the tension between social mission and economic value in a sharing economy. Six feature articles center around the value creation innovation model and the paradox of social innovation legitimacy, and the motivation for participation in social value creation. Based on the unity of opposites between means and ends, we propose an internal transformation mechanism and a process model for economic and social value, so as to investigate the positive effects of a sharing economy on the transformation of the dual values. We review six articles and briefly introduced their contributions to the new value model, legitimacy, and participation willingness in a sharing economy. Finally, we put forward some future research directions, e.g., new social problems that may arise from a sharing economy.
