From Archaeology To Gendered Space– Geometric Evidence in Architecture

Abstract

This letter from the editor introduces Vol. 27(2) of the Nexus Network Journal: Architecture and Mathematics. This issue features research that explores the generation, interpretation and application of evidence developed from geometric traces in architecture. From the craters made by projectiles in the walls of ancient Pompeii to the invisible segregation of gender roles in contemporary Mexican society, architecture’s geometric properties and spatial arrangements can be utilised to understand the past, critique the present, and shape the future. The research in this issue examines buildings from Italy, Turkestan, Türkiye and Mexico. Multiple computational and mathematical methods are used in these works, with data developed from surveys and simulations.
