Abstract

No one would deny the historical, cultural and academic importance of traditional performing arts. Inherited through generations and closely related to local customs, beliefs and festivals, the maintenance of these traditional performing arts in India is additionally and closely linked to caste and religion, while also reflecting the changing politics, economics and values across the ages. Today, it is obvious that contemporary globalization has produced many changes in our socio-economic and cultural landscape. Dynamic global cultural trends meet and merge with local practices in transformative ways; people around the world adapt globalization to their own conditions and needs. Caught in this tide, traditional performing arts too are evolving a new paradigm in modern society.
