Abstract
Reports verbatim the lecture delivered to the Society in April, 1980 in which basic satellite design and developments in satellite picture techniques are outlined. Mentions some of the other uses of weather satellites and their observations, and points out some of the limitations of the technology. There is an extended discussion.-M.Barrett
