Abstract
We explore the relationship between history and memory, as well as the link between the academic discourses and the emergence of socially valued stories within a given community. The analysis of interviews conducted in the village of Purmamarca (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy, Argentina), allow us discuss how, through the stories told about historical events, a people's social memory is constructed, including divergent narratives.
