Abstract

This paper presents the results of the numerical evaluation of the stability of the tunnel from the empirical design of tunnel 7 of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, Indonesia. Rock mass classification is determined by the rock mass rating (RMR), Geological Strength Index (GSI), and Q system. The empirical support system design method used in this study is RMR and Q-system. Performance and stability of the design support system are evaluated using finite element numerical analysis to obtain a redistribution of stress, yield elements, and deformation around the tunnel. The Rocscience Phase2 software was used for modeling and analysis in this research. The parameter and properties used in numerical modeling are derived from field data (geological conditions, rock samples, and drilling cores), laboratory test results, and empirical data. Modeling is carried out in two situations, namely unsupported and using a support system. The results obtained indicate that the empirical support system design based on RMR reduces the total displacement and yield element compared to the proposed design based on the Q-system. The results also show that the support system proposed by the two empirical design methods can provide a safe tunnel design.
