Abstract

This article discusses art teaching in nonformal education, aiming to contribute to issues of recognition and belonging in educational spaces. It also addresses education for citizenship and student development along sociopolitical dimensions. The chosen research locus is the Projeto Gente Nova (PROGEN), a civil society organization, a nonformal educational initiative located in Campinas, São Paulo. The data that was collected corroborated the recognition of art teaching as a facilitating option for creating and strengthening positive emotional family and community ties.
