Abstract

The effectiveness of Biologically Integrated Orchard Systems (BIOS) in controlling codling moth (Cydia pomonella), mites and aphids was compared with conventionally managed walnut orchards in northern San Joaquin Valley in California, USA from 1999 to 2001. Codling moth was effectively controlled by pheromone disruption and alternative pest control methods. Mating disruption provided good control of codling moth in many orchards. However, it was more expensive for growers than conventional pest control methods.
