Organochlorine pesticides residues were detected and measured by gas liquid chromatography from surface sediments of the coastal lagoon Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (Colombian Caribbean). The following concentrations were found: 0.40-44.2 for lindane, 1.97-28.2 for hep-tachlor, 0.17-1.07 for aldrine, 0.19-1.91 for dieldrine, 0.0-0.08 for pp'DDT, and 38-266 for total nonidentified residues, all in parts per billion. Levels of all these pesticides are lower than those found in other coastal areas but the results evidence an accumulation process, and the data provide a baseline for future measurements of this contaminants.
