Abstract

The years since the 1960s have been marked by the solidification of the position of standard systems of classification and cataloguing. It has been mainly in cataloguing that changes have been considerable, and that largely due to the advent of AACR2 and especially to the on-line cataloguing of maps via networks, which has led to the relatively speedy cataloguing of collections that otherwise would probably not have been catalogued at all; this has in itself led to the active interest in cartographic-materials cataloguing by many librarians. -from Author
