Abstract
Mounier-Kuhn syndrome or tracheobronchomegaly is a rare lung disorder characterized by tracheal and main bronchi enlargement characterized by dilation of the trachea and the bronchial tree, which is caused by the reduction and atrophy of the elastic fibers of the trachea and bronchi, where there will be a greater predisposition to recurrent respiratory infections and the appearance of cylindrical bronchiectasis. We report the case of a 71-year-old woman with a story of recurrent pneumonia who presented a 7-day history of dyspnea and productive mucopurulent cough. Physical examination, admission blood tests and chest X-ray were inconclusive. Bronchoscopy showed distortion and severe enlargement of the trachea and main bronchi. Computed tomography of the thorax demonstrated widening of the trachea associated with multiple diverticula of both the anterior and posterior wall. These findings were diagnostic of Mounier-Kuhn syndrome.
