The occurrence and feeding of Pomatomus saltarix (el) and Lichia amia (leervis) juveniles in two Cape south coast estuaries.

Abstract

Pomatomus saltratrix was caught only in Knysna from September-April. L. amia was found in both systems intermittently throughout the year. Small juveniles were most abundant from November-February in Knysna and from December-February in Swartvlei. Prey selected varies with size and species although there is some overlap. Behavioural and morphological differences are discussed in relation to prey selection.-from Authors
