Abstract
This article deals with discourses and gender codes related to ischemic cardiopathy spread by the press in the last two decades of the 20th century. In the analysis of the popularizing discourse that explains the morbidity and the mortality in men and women, gender stereotypes have been identified, as well as strategies that were based on the discourse of domesticity that connected illness with transgression and worked as mechanisms of subalternity.
