Abstract

Free fatty acids in plasma and entry rates of palmitic acid were measured in fed and fasted sheep injected with ovine growth hormone. Free fatty acids began to increase 2 hours after injection of the ovine growth hormone and reached a maximum at 6 hours post-ovine growth hormone. Entry rates of palmitic acid were higher in fasted sheep (11.2 and 25.2 μM/min/kg body wt3/4 before and after ovine growth hormone, respectively) than in fed sheep (5.65 and 16.5). Effects of both fasting and ovine growth hormone were highly significant (P < 0.01). © 1970, American Dairy Science Association. All rights reserved.
