Abstract

Purpose: This study explored mathematical activities and the application of elementary school Mathematics concepts in the Joglo Pendopo Ageng (JPA) building, Surakarta, Indonesia. Methodology: This study used a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design through three data collection techniques: observation, interview, and literature study. The authors tested the validity of the data by using triangulation techniques. Data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Results: The results of this study were the application of ethnomathematics to the JPA building in the form of mathematical activities such as counting, designing, measuring, and explaining as well as its application to mathematical materials such as lines, angles, and 2D figure. Applications/Originality/Value: The implications of this study were: First, this article can be used as a learning idea related to regional culture. Second, for the younger generation, it can improve the noble values of local culture. This study revealed mathematical activities such as counting, designing, measuring, and explaining. At the same time, the integration is in the Basic Competence of Mathematics in third and fourth grade.
