Abstract

Brachial plexus injuries (BPI) are one of the most devastating injuries by dint of the population affected and the extent of the resulting functional impairment. Not only the victims but also the entire family suffers indirectly from the functional loss to the victim of such injuries. Recent decades have seen many advances in the understanding, diagnosis, surgical techniques, and outcomes of these injuries. From a therapeutic nihilism in the initial years to the well-proven efficacy of modern-day nerve transfer surgeries, the management of BPI has travelled a long road. This chapter provides an updated review on this condition, focusing on surgical treatment and outcome assessment with a brief perspective of the future in this field.
