Abstract

Football is known as the most popular sport branch all over the world. Football, which is a phenomenon followed by masses worldwide independent of socio-economic status, has a serious area of employment which has become an industry. Football is not only a political tool in many countries; it is also the biggest advertisement and propaganda element. Even in the local areas of some countries, almost all the agenda is football. Why football is the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to sports? What is the reason behind this? What lies beneath the attraction of people? If the investments in football were to be made in other branches, would the same interest and industry occur? In this research, qualitative research method was applied to answer these questions. Various sports programs, newspapers and magazines were examined and some writings of certain writers were followed. The analysis of the obtained opinions, followed writings and branching in countries are presented in the findings section as tables. As a result based on the finding obtained from this research, it can be stated that the interest in football has been continuously increasing with the advancing technology all over the world and the new occupational groups have been originated. Therefore it may be said that the reason why media makes more news about football than other news is this interest of people. Economic and nationalist aspects of football cannot be disregarded. Unwittingly, People are actually consumer in the sports market. Even purchasing a product of the supported team or buying one ticket and going to the game or paying to the broadcasting organizations to watch game makes people indirectly involved in the football market. People perceive the team they support as a symbol of nationalism and as a result of this symbolism, hooliganism rises in some countries. Therefore, it can be stated that the sociological and psychological dimensions of the families that appeal to the masses of football will continue to exist as a social phenomenon which increases their popularity.
