Globalization and Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria: An Ex-Post Facto Approach

Abstract

This study focused on the effects of globalization on SMEs performance in Nigeria. The researcher conducted an ex-post facto research design. The study covered a period of 35 years between 1986-2021. The data collected were analyzed using econometric techniques. The findings revealed that foreign direct investment has positive and significant effect on small and medium enterprises performance. Foreign trade has a positive but insignificant effect on SMEs performance. Due to the value of p-value=0.000. The study concluded that globalization has significant contributions on the performance of SMEs in Nigeria. The study however recommended among others that SMEs should take advantage of globalization to expand their market share through expansion and diversification strategies.
